SEASON 2 - September to November, 2024 - every Saturday - 2PM to 3PM Est at NY Jogei Temple (1st Floor)
Practice Seon meditation through observing the Diamond Sutra - the very traditional Buddhist monastery study style in Korean Zen temple
Meditation
Meditation practice remains the heart and soul of Chogyesa. The early morning meditation session is held daily at 6:00AM. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Chogyesa holds the Intensive Seon Meditation Classes, which feature some chanting, breathing exercises, instructions in sitting meditation, Dharma Talk with Q&A, as well as a one-on-one Kong-an Interview with Seon Master Ingoong. Kong-an interviews are a traditional way to check a practioner’s mind and also help us develop wisdom in every day life. The interviews take place in the main Dharma Room.
Everyone is welcome to attend the mediation practice session and prior registration is not necessary.
Seon Yoga Meditation
Seon Yoga refers to the blend of Seon and Yoga practices with the combination said to increase flexibility, improve the flow of breathing, and open joints. The philosophy of Seon is incorporated through being mindfully aware of the present moment. The basic principle of Seon Yoga is that simple breathing, movement and stretching exercies are available to anyone regardless of age, fitness, or health. Seon Master Ingoong is an expert practitioner of Seon Yoga.
500 Bows Meditation
Chogyesa holds a group 500 bows practice sessions. It is not necessary to complete all the bows. Just attending and seeing how many bows you can do is more than enough. The group energy will surprise you when practicing together. No one is left behind as the group helps all participants in attendance.
The 500 bows are a very powerful form of body meditation, that allows our thinking minds to quickly subside, letting one feel at peace with whatever is happening. It is also a very powerful humbling practice; by doing bows, we surrender our selfish egos to the greater harmony of the universe, which lets us live our lives clearly for all beings.
Sunday Dharma Service
Every Sunday at 11:00AM, Chogyesa holds its Dharma Service, which features traditional Korean chanting followed by lunch. Everyone is welcome to attend.
